在外企会议或英文辩论赛中，我们常会遇到有人习惯以“According to me…”开头，但在英语中，这种用法其实并不恰当。

因为“according to”后面通常跟随的是一种客观的依据，所以不宜直接使用“according to me／us”，也不宜使用“according to you”。但如果是“according to the doctor（或人名）”这样的表述，则是可以接受的。

再者，由于“according to”主要表达的是客观陈述，因此它后面不宜接如“view（看法）”和“opinion（意见）”这类带有主观色彩的字眼。如果真想表达“依据我的看法”，更常用的说法是“in my opinion”。

例如：

就我的看法，这是很可靠的投资。

常见的错误表达是：

According to me, it is a very sound investment. （X）

According to my opinion, it is a very sound investment.（X）

正确的说法是：

In my opinion, it is a very sound investment.（√）

“according to”的适用场景很多，只需注意使用时避免上述误区即可。例如：

Philip stayed at the hotel, according to Mr Hemming.

据亨明先生所说，菲利普住在旅馆里。

They can get on with running the school system according to their own lights and in their own interests.

他们可以继续按照自己的想法，依据自己的利益来管理学校系统。

According to the prosecution, the officers manufactured an elaborate story

根据控方意见，官员们精心编造了事情经过。

Answer a fool according to his folly.以其人之道，还治其人之身。

特别提醒：

“according to”句型后面不能随意接人称代词宾格，但可以接受第三人称代词：

According to him, she is not honest. 据他说，她是一个不诚实的人。

例外情况是，当“according to”需要接一个句子时，可以使用“according as”，如：

Everyone contributes according as he is able. 每个人根据自己的能力作出自己的贡献。

但是，如果后接的句子是由what, whether, how, when, where等引导的，只能用“according to”，不能用“according as”，如：

He is an honest businessman, according to what everyone says.

根据大家所说，他是一个诚实的商人。

再举几个例子：

The amount of tax people pay varies according to where they live.

人们的纳税额根据他们居住的地方而有所不同。

These apples have been graded according to how big they are.

这些苹果已按大小分级。

They were arranged according to when they happened.

它们是根据发生的时间安排的。
